Dressing For The Occasion (A Guy's Point Of View)

Weddings and other "special" events are just that - special! So why is it at so many weddings do I see male guests in jeans, polo shirts, tshirts, sunglasses (when the event is being held indoors!)..ah, this list can go on and on.

I've touched on this topic before - but I think this article from AskMen.com says it succintly and clearly..........there's nothing more handsome than a sharp (and appropriately) dressed man!

Philly…Here I Come (Again!)

However, this time – it’s for a great cause! My good friend and fellow planner, Mark Kingsdorf of the Queen of Hearts Wedding Consultants is once again throwing a fabulous shindig – and I plan on helping him take it to the max!!!

This is my second time around as a “celebrity judge” …but this year, the Queen of all cakes is going to be in the house – the one and only Sylvia Weinstock, the famed “Cake Lady Of Soho”.

So if you are in the metro Philadelphia area, come on out and join us for some sweetness – cake, music, prizes, great wedding professionals and most of all…to celebrate the sweetness of life and an organization which does so much for so many. Here are the details!!!

Mmmmm....Tasty!!!

That's what these unique edibles are!

Just in time for Valentine's Day, sugar artist Jennifer Comfort of She Takes the Cake, and stationery designer Erin Nowak of BrideDesign, unveiled the new home for their InvitastionsTM product line, SweetTalkBoutique. The new site will still feature the designers' unique cookie invitations, better known as InvitastionsTM. In addition to the custom created offerings they've always had, Jen and Erin have expandedInvitastionsTM, into a larger line of edible greeting cards, invitations and announcements.

These delicious morsels are great for shower invites, wedding invites - even as a delightful way to say "Will you marry me?" So go ahead - indulge that sweet tooth and send a wonderful message at the same time!!!

The LUV Affair

For those of you who are looking for something to do on V-Day besides the tried-and-true dinner/movie combo - consider "The Luv Affair", an evening of great jazz and neo-soul music. This is the kind of event which is perfect for holding hands, dancing close AND "popping the question". If you are in the Baltimore area - check it out!!

"LOVEWeek"

Valentine's Day is almost upon us - so in honor of all things romantic, I thought I would share a few of the things that speak of LOVE to me. Being a wedding planner - I have come to realize that I am truly, truly a hopeless romantic. Cliched term - but hey, it's what I am!!

There's a great feeling that goes along with and into loving someone - it's the kind of power that makes you feel adored, cherished, desired and oh, so very good! I am of the notion however, that in order to be in love with someone - first and foremost, you have to LOVE yourself!!

With all of that being said - here's the first glimpse into my "LOVElist":

"I Wanna Be Loved" - Eric Benet
This is one of my absolutely favorite love songs - Eric's powerfully haunting, sensual voice truly captures the essence of the words. It's one of those tunes where if you take a moment to really listen to the lyrics - you can't help but be moved. Share it with the one you love!!!

True DIVA

I have the distinct honor and pleasure to be an integral part of a very special occasion honoring one of the most prolific music legends of our time. Yours truly has been tapped to create a simply mesmerizing environment for the one and only - Ms. Patti LaBelle, as she is honored at the unveiling of her wax figurine that will be the inaugural piece for the National Great Blacks In Wax Museum new Music & Arts Wing here in Baltimore.

Truly, I am honored. I have loved Ms. LaBelle since the days of Lady Marmalade and am so looking forward to bringing this event to life!!! While weddings make up a large portion of what we do here at Premiere Event Management - it's not the only thing!! I pride myself on creating one-of-a-kind occasions that you and your guests will always remember!!

I am designing this as a true "red carpet" affair - so if you are in the area (even if you're not) and you want to experience a wonderful event, see some of your favorite celebrities in person and contribute to the wonderful cause that is the Museum - mark your calendars for Friday, May 23rd beginning at 7 p.m. at the Carl J. Murphy Fine Arts Center on the campus of Morgan State University.

Tickets will be going on sale soon - and I can already tell you, this event will be SOLD OUT, so don't you miss out!!! Additional details can be found by visiting the museum's website at http://www.ngbiwm.com/ .

Soiree'

Just wanted to put the proverbial "heads up" out to everyone who's been inquiring about my annual party, "Soiree". Because of my schedule - I've had to change the date...so mark your calendars for Sunday, July 13th!!! Tickets should go on sale in May......don't miss out on my version of "A Midsummer's Night DREAM"..................................................

The Best Investment

is what my client called me today! During the finishing moments of our cake tasting at SugarBakers, while the invoice was being tallied..the bride said that indeed, she was glad that she had invested her dollars in hiring me. I have to tell you - that was such a good thing to hear!!!

And I appreciate how she worded the phrase "a good investment of her dollars" - simply because that is what a great wedding planner is to their clients. I know that there are many, many people out there who think that we are some sort of "luxury" and that only couples with expansive budgets can afford to hire us, but nothing could be further from the truth! A wedding planning professional is your ticket to the efficient, seamless, enjoyable nuptial experience - we are your ally, advocate and guide through what can be and often is a MAZE of terminology, contracts, negotiations and mediation. We are the tool that can help you sit back and savor moments that cannot ever be recaptured..just think, you can actually be the bride and groom, while basking in all the love that's around you! What a novel concept :)

It seems like not a day passes by that I am not explaining in some shape or fashion why having a wedding planner is a very good thing. In talking with colleagues on a nationwide basis - I'm seeing this trend of people wanting to find "professional" coordinators to manage their events...but for $250 or less! I'm sorry...but no true professional worth their salt is going to be had for that price. The sheer amount of work that we perform to help an event flow and come together is enormous and believe me - we work HARD!!! My client had the right attitude and thought pattern - she sees a professional planner as an asset and an investment. It's her time, her sanity, her very special day...all up for grabs. What she realizes (and I hope more people do also!) is that having someone like me on her "team" is how the game gets played - and won.

What's Goin' On???

One of my all-time favorite songs by Marvin Gaye - I love it! So I think it's only fitting that I chose it for the title of my first blog entry of 2008...since a lot of you have been asking me the same question!!! I know that I've been absent for a minute, but hey...things have been uber-hectic around here!!!

We started off the year in Atlanta, Georgia at The Special Event Tradeshow and Conference - simply a MUST for any professional in the event planning industry! So much to do, so many new networking connections, tons of beautifully exciting new products and tools.. AND I was teaching a workshop at the conference! Judging from the response I received from my participants - the topic matter was on point and what they needed, which is just the way I like it!! I hope to be teaching again at the 2009 conference in sunny San Diego - I will keep you posted!!

After flying back in from Atlanta - I was off again, this time to the city of Brotherly (and now, Sisterly) Love..Philadelphia, PA.!! I was honored to be the guest speaker at a workshop for wedding planning professionals entitled "Designed For Success", given by my colleague, Deidre Gray. The workshop was great - and along with my fellow presenters Isis Petrie of POSH Events, LLC., Randi Martin of Always Fabulous Events, Debbie Wallace of Elegant Affairs LLC, and of course, the event's producer - Deidre Gray of Always A Positive Image, LLC. - I'm glad that we were able to give salient advice and excellent information to the ladies and gentleman present (yes - there was one guy in the house!!).

So now I am back home in Baltimore for a wee bit - but it's still busy nonetheless! I am working with some great couples and planning a few memorable celebrations....I promise to be a good girl this year and blog more...so hold me to it!
